Mediahuis news brands receive Trust Mark

Mediahuis is proud to announce that several of its news brands have been officially recognised as partners of The Trust Project, a global initiative that brings together more than 300 news sites and services committed to transparency, trustworthiness and responsible journalism.

Aachener Zeitung, Belfast Telegraph and Irish Independent have successfully completed The Trust Project’s implementation process and received the official Trust Mark. At the end of July, Mediahuis Luxembourg’s news brands (Luxemburger Wort, Luxembourg Times, Virgule, Contacto and Telecran) had already achieved this recognition. NRC will follow shortly. This recognition places our brands within an international network of news organizations actively committed to transparent and accountable journalism.

At a time when disinformation and polarization are making the media landscape increasingly complex, it is more important than ever for news media to distinguish themselves through reliability, integrity and transparency. By joining The Trust Project, these news brands reaffirm their ongoing commitment to journalism that earns the trust of readers, viewers and listeners, today and in the future.

The participating editorial teams endorse the eight Trust Indicators: journalistic principles developed globally in collaboration with newsrooms and the public. These indicators clarify who is responsible for a story, what sources were used, how the news was produced, and how audiences can provide feedback. This transparency helps news users assess the credibility of information and strengthens trust in independent news sources.

Mediahuis sees this recognition as a natural step in its broader social role as a publisher.

Caroline Swanenberg, Head of Sustainability at Mediahuis group: “As a media group, we aim to contribute to a strong, independent and responsible press that supports democratic society. For us, trustworthiness is not an empty concept, but a shared responsibility of every newsroom within our group. Our affiliation with The Trust Project underscores our unwavering belief in independent journalism that informs, connects and is grounded in transparency and integrity.”

About The Trust Project

The Trust Project is a global initiative, founded in 2014 by journalist Sally Lehrman. It builds on the principles of the 1947 Hutchins Commission, which emphasized the importance of a free and responsible press. The eight Trust Indicators provide a practical framework for news organizations worldwide to demonstrate their journalistic integrity.

With this partnership, Mediahuis joins a growing network of leading news organizations striving to make a difference in a fragmented media landscape.
