It’s important to us that our staff can function well and feel good, so their talent can truly shine. Their development and vitality are central to that, alongside increasing the diversity in our organisation so Mediahuis can grow to be a more diverse and inclusive employer.

Mediahuis wants to be an organisation that reflects the composition of society and in which everyone has equal opportunities to use their skills and talents. This doesn’t happen by itself, even if there are plenty of good intentions. But by constantly entering into dialogue with each other, by learning from projects and initiatives in other parts of Mediahuis, by formulating concrete objectives, together we create a culture of openness and an eye for differences.

More diverse and inclusive in what we do and who we are

Mediahuis aims to be an organisation where everyone feels welcome and safe, regardless of gender, culture, age, orientation, origin, religion, etc. As a media company, we are at the heart of society. Our mission is to inform readers accurately and reliably, interpret the news and connect people. Because our media brands want to target everyone within our local community, we need a strong understanding of people and their expectations. So, in the content we publish and in the way we do it, we need to put more focus on reaching young people and readers from migrant backgrounds.

Mediahuis Youth Lab

Mediahuis Youth Lab was created in Belgium, with 12 young people being invited into the newsrooms of De Standaard, Nieuwsblad, Gazet van Antwerpen and Het Belang van Limburg. The newcomers are coached by experienced reporters and have an important task themselves: to hold a mirror up to journalists and demonstrate how young people today consume news and what stories interest them. With Youth Lab, Mediahuis wants to get more in touch with young audiences and readers with a migration background.

Mediahuis Emerging Talent

Mediahuis Ireland began Mediahuis Emerging Talent, a programme for better identifying young talent with a passion for journalism. It aims to increase diversity in newsrooms for our online and print titles in Dublin and Belfast. More information about the Mediahuis Emerging Talent programme of Mediahuis Ireland can be read here
